Happy River Cafe @ Footscray

It's not easy to enjoy eating out when you have a restless toddler with you. Even the most delicious food becomes rather tasteless if we have to gulp it down in a hurry because our little boy is getting bored and restless. With that in mind, we are always on the lookout for child friendly restaurants/cafes with decent food.

Happy River Cafe at Footscray is such a place. I don't know why it took us so long to finally go there considering it's quite near our place and we have seen the glowing review of it on Little Eats quite a while ago. I am just glad we went as it didn't disappoint.

They have a few toy cars and other toys to keep the kids occupied while the adults enjoy their food/drinks. The large grass area in front also offers enough secure space for them to run around and burn their energy within your sight. This blue Tike in particular was Rafa's favourite there.

The food was all right without being spectacular. It's the usual cafe brunch type menu with reasonable prices. We had the bacon & scrambled eggs on toast and smoked salmon plus poached eggs and hollandaise. The bacon & eggs were better than the salmon. Being able to enjoy the food leisurely was a big plus for us.

As the name suggested, the cafe is located next to the river. That's the Maribyrnong river behind the cafe and the CBD and the container port on the other side of the river.

For those who are interested in local art, there is an art gallery next door too inside that charismatic old building.

Verdict? Highly recommended for parents with young kids.
