I planned to bring little Rafa out on an excursion to lake Daylesford while his mom was enjoying her massage but I received a phone call as we were about to leave home. As it happened, one of the therapists called in sick so they asked if we could reschedule to later in the day. We ended up postponing the massage to a different day altogether but drove to Daylesford anyway as it's one of our favourite day trip destinations.
The planned father and son excursion became a family of three excursion in Lake Daylesford. It was a beautiful day at Lake Daylesford and Rafa wanted to ride the boat in the lake so we hired a paddle boat. It's a reasonable $10 for 20 minutes hire. Just make sure you apply plenty of sunscreen as the sun can be quite strong.
We also took a little walk around the lake.
And Rafa got to check out the water in the stream (with constant supervision).
He even got to pump some natural mineral water out of the well (with our help), and we filled up his water bottle and let him have a little sip. Natural mineral water is supposed to be good for you. We don't appreciate the taste though, it tastes very metallic.
Oh and as usual, there's a playground next to the lake, and Rafa had some fun there as well.
It turned out to be a nice little family excursion and our little adventurer had lots of fun.The only disappointing part of Lake Daylesford was the food at the Boathouse Cafe at the lake. We had lunch there and the food was very very ordinary. I wished I had read the Urbanspoon reviews before we went. 1 star out of 5 and only 17% of people voted like would have warned us off.

Which website did you buy the massage from, was it a good deal?
Scoopon, $39 for two hours worth of treatment :).
Thanks! We went to Lake Daylesford after reading your blog, and to be honest, we weren't too impressed with the small lake. Hepburn Springs was a bunch of unkempt bushes with the walkway in a state of disarray.
Nevertheless, thanks for the photos and the warning about the food in the boathouse cafe!
Sorry to hear that you didnt enjoy the area. It's a getaway country town that Melbournians visit to wind down with a relaxing massage/spa and other simple things (such as the local market, some niche shops, and a bit of bushwalking). No special sights there, it's not a place that makes people go 'wow', but it's a place that makes people (us anyway) go back for the things mentioned above and reasonably short drive for a day trip.
